Why we are here.

Since completing my medical studies almost 3 decades ago, I have pursued many paths to effect positive change in healthcare. It wasn't always clear why I chose this path or where it would lead, but my journey was always driven by curiosity and a deep love for the people who placed their trust in me as a doctor, coach, or leader.

After my specialist training and research at university hospitals in Munich and Berlin, I made the decision to join an international corporation to shape change in the healthcare sector from that vantage point. My role as a management consultant and manager at Siemens Medical Solutions provided plentiful opportunities to do just that. It was a wonderful period from which I gained invaluable experience. However, I missed direct patient interaction.

After my little detour into the corporate jungle, I continued my medical education and helped establish a large outpatient medical center in Berlin (the best integrated concept I've ever encountered), and eventually decided to open my own practice to dedicate myself entirely to my patients.

Once overweight and a heavy smoker, I've felt the crushing weight of burnout firsthand. These struggles have profoundly shaped my compassion and purpose. As a father of three, I truly understand the importance of support during dark times. My personal journey has deeply influenced my approach to healthcare, emphasizing empathy and a commitment to support each of my patients on their path to wellness.

The pivotal moment for my continued journey in medicine came when I encountered a whitepaper, "21st Century Medicine: a new model for medical education and practice". The model of "Functional Medicine" described therein captured my imagination and has never let go. My training at the Institute for Functional Medicine only deepened my enthusiasm, as did my interactions with peers who, like me, found their medical calling there. I am profoundly grateful for this remarkable community.

Over the years, I developed my own approaches and specialties. Observing an increasing dilution of the term "Functional Medicine," I encapsulated my ideas under the term "Personalized System Oriented Medicine (PSOM)®".
